Team Survivor Sea Dragons

TSSD’s most popular activity is dragon boat paddling—a team sport with 20 paddlers and a steersperson per boat. Our team, the Team Survivor Sea Dragons, was founded in 2008 and is made up of dedicated female cancer survivors of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels. United by a passion for fitness and teamwork, we train and compete under the guidance of our inspiring coach. We welcome new members year-round, especially in the summer after June’s many Survivor Celebrations around San Diego—a perfect time to meet fellow newcomers and learn the sport together. Contact us to be notified about our next new paddler practice.

Paddling offers a great full-body workout, building core strength and endurance. Many women with lymphedema also find it helps relieve symptoms.

We train year-round with twice-weekly practices at the Youth Aquatic Center on Fiesta Island. Racing is optional—but always fun!

Each year, we travel to at least two events, typically the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival in Tempe and the Long Beach Festival in California. Our parent club, the San Diego Dragon Boat Team, also

hosts a local race.

A highlight for our team was winning Silver at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver in 2013—one of the biggest in North America.

Come paddle with us—it’s a blast!
